Scratch Tutorial

Today, Room 2 had a go at a computer program called SCRATCH. We were learning to understand that when we give a digital device an input, the device will process it and produce an output.

Kaboom Parachute!!

Today, Room had a go at working together! We had to all pull the parachute down as quickly as possible (and all at the same time) to flick the ball up in the air.  Check out the video to see how we got on!

For math we have been doing some monster art. Alexia's looked like an Illuminati with 1 eye and another face at the bottom.

tessellasions

For our maths we were doing geometry. Mr Lobb, Mr Arnold and Mrs Higginson taught us about tessellations. Tessellations are when you make a any shape you want and you get a big piece of paper and you draw around the shape and continue until you have the whole of paper filled with  the shape that you made. Then you can make a design and colour it in.

Marae trip

In Week 7 our school went to the Marae. When we got to the marae, we were welcomed by the Tanagata Whenua (Room 1). They called us onto their Marae, and then welcomed us with waiata. They welcomed us by speaking in Te Reo Maori and Mr McKeever spoke for us.

Surf Life Saving

On Monday Room 2 did surf life saving at Himatangi Beach. We learnt about a rip. A rip is when waves cross over and turn into foamy water. We enjoyed swimming in the water and playing beach games. There aren't many photos because it was raining hard!

Welcome Back

Hello Room 2 children and parents. I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and have plenty of stories to share for our first week back.

I have been teaching in Puawaitanga for the past 4 years and am excited to move over to the Te Wai Nui O Tane team. A lot of you will already know me as I have taught your child before. For those that don't, please come and introduce yourself. I look forward to our future interactions regarding your child's learning.

Just a quick note to introduce myself as I will be your child’s teacher for the rest of the year. We have moved back to the Manawatu  as my husband has left the army  and moved back into civilian life. Until moving here I was the DP at Naenae Intermediate in Lower Hutt.

I was born and bred in Palmerston and my husband’s family are from Whanganui so it will be good to be back closer to family and friends. In our family, we have 2 adult children, Sam and Jessica, Sams partner Amy and 2 grandchildren, Sophia and Bailey, who will be remaining in Upper Hutt. We have bought a house in  Feilding and are looking forward to this new chapter in our lives.

I have taught in a number of schools in Whanganui, Waiouru, Upper Hutt and Lower Hutt over my teaching career. These have been a mix of primary and intermediate and as a result of this, I have taught at all levels at some point during this time.

I am looking forward to working with your children and meeting you all in the coming weeks.

Dance

Noho Marae

Last week, Te Wao Nui o Tane had their Noho Marae at Rangitane Marae. It was awesome to see so many Room 2 children getting involved with all of the activities. There were several rotations that the children were apart of and this included Maori games, nutrition and food prep for a hangi, sketching of Maori carvings, rakau sticks, weaving and a traditional Maori board game. It was an awesome opportunity for the children to learn more about Maori tikanga as well as the culture. This was a very valuable experience for the children which I'm sure they will remember for many years to come.

We would also like to send out a BIG thank you to all the parents who came down to help with either the activities, the food prep or both. We really appreciate all your hard work!

                    

Hula Hoop Creative Dance

We explored a variety of movements both frozen and with movement using a prop (hula hoop)

In the beginning we made frozen shapes using our bodies in a variety of different ways and levels.  Then we experimented with movement in and around our hula hoop, creating different ways to travel through, around or over it. Finally we combined both frozen images and movement together to create a partner dance.

Look at all the fun we had working together and creating our dances.

Art Work

Kia ora whanau and friends,

For the past three weeks, the children have been working on their art work to hang on the walls of our classroom. The artwork is a side on portrait of their faces and inside this picture they have drawn pictures of their interests and hobbies. Some have already completed this to a very high standard and the remainder of children are almost there. We can't wait to have them up on our walls for everyone to see! =)

We expect our teacher to..

• To give clear examples of what we need to do.
• Be a happy teacher.
• Challenge us.
• Respect us.
• Give us challenging homework.
• Give us lots of writing.
• Be hygienic. 
• Be funny and not grumpy.
• Play games with us.
• Make sure we are happy.
• Give us free time.
• Teach us.
• Listen to us.
• Teach us some creative art.

I expect children in Room 2 to..

• Be respectful to all teachers in our learning space.
• Listen carefully when their peers or the teachers are speaking.
• Use their manners inside and outside of the classroom.
• Treat others how they would like to be treated.
• Put your hand up when you want to speak.
• Have everything organised for their learning at the beginning of the day.
• Give everything a go and challenge themselves.
• Talk to me if they are unsure of anything or if they need to tell me something.
• Ask questions.
• Come to school each day focused and ready to learn.

These are the expectations that the children have come up with together for the teacher this year and also what the teacher expects of them.
